As part of a project commissioned by Kagoshima Prefecture, “Project to raise awareness of Sidotti's achievements in spreading Western culture,'' we held the second training session for a project to develop ecotourism in Koshima Ward.
The invited lecturers were Ryutaro Higashikawa, a professional “town walking'' expert, and representative of the NPO Community Development Forum Kagoshima Exploration Association, and Hitoshi Terada, an expert on plants.
This time, the training focused on the Sidotti-related stone monuments, churches, and observation towers in the Yamanose area.
Among the villages of Yakushima, Koshima Ward is characterized by its international connections, as exemplified by the footsteps of Sidotti. There is great potential for village tours targeting inbound tourists, and both instructors agreed on specializing in tours that focus on this historical event.
